Taste of Melbourne Festival 2011

It's kind of scary thinking about how long ago this event was, and how quickly time has passed. It's almost 2012, and I've still don't think that I've lived 2011 to its fullest. There's always so many things happening, places to visit, food to try that 24 hours in a day (including sleep and work time) hardly seems enough.

Seeing that it's been so long since the festival though, and that my recollection of what was good and bad can't really be relied upon to be accurate, I'll just post up a whole lot of pictures instead so you can see how much of a pig I was.

Alvin Quah
The Botanical: Wagyu Beef

Mahjong Black: Peking Duck

The Millswyn: 10 hr Braised Beef Cheeks with Beetroot, Spinach & Field Mushroom

Stokehouse: Grilled Pork and Fennel Slider with Mustard Mayo

Stokehouse: Seared Scallops, Green Chilli Aioli, Almonds and Celeriac Remoulade

Esposito & St Peter’s: Mussels with Barramundi & Baked Bread Crumbs

Sarti: Slow Cooked Suckling Lamb, Pearl Barley Salad & Truffled Pecorino

Libertine & Le Traiteur: ‘Coq au vin’ – Burgundy-Style Slow-Braised Lilydale Chicken in Red Wine & Thyme

So. much. food. There's no denying that the event is expensive, and that it's mainly a marketing adventure for the restaurants, but between the bountiful array of restaurant fodder, to the numerous stalls selling anything from cheeses, to chocolates, to jams and olive oils to alcohol, you're sure to have a great (but costly) time.

As for the success of the marketing? The only restaurant that I'm really itching to go to would be Stokehouse, but then again, I knew that from last year. Speaking of last year, they got rid of the chocolate fountain, which left me a little disappointed, and downsized the HSBC tent significantly, but at least the Nespresso stand was hugely popular.

Taste of Melbourne 2012, please impress me.

  1. The highlight for me was the drinks at Longrain - they were freakin awesome! It was the 1st time I'd been to Taste so I couldn't compare it to any previous years though I have heard it wasn't as great.

  2. Surprisingly, I didn't buy a single drink from a restaurant. Sounds like I missed out though.

    There's always 2012 I guess!
