Probiotics, in a Bottle

I used to go through tubs of yogurt at a phenomenal rate but my consumption has gone down during the last year (although I still go through more than my fair share). To make up for the reduction in those tiny friendly bacteria I started taking probiotic supplements daily.

Needless to say though, I'm terrible at remembering to take these everyday. That's when Golden Circle Healthy LifeTM Fruit Juice with Probiotic Cultures comes in handy. Whilst it doesn't necessarily contain the same strain of bacteria as in the probiotic supplements, the cultures in the juice have been shown to support natural immune defences by stabilising gut flora and enhancing immune responses. Especially in such a cold winter, that's a great thing. 

Currently, there are only two flavours; Breakfast and Apple & Mango which come in 300 mL and 1 L bottles. I'd like more variety to choose from, but as far as I know, there are no other probiotic juices in the Australian market (but I'm secretly hoping this changes in the future). If these juices are popular enough, I expect more delicious varieties to come.

Even with all these benefits, juice isn't worth consuming if it doesn't taste good. Thankfully, these juices hold up well in that department too. Given a choice, I'm definitely a berry juice drinker, but these juices go down well, and a free from the nasty aftertaste that comes with artificial flavours.

I found another use for the juices other than drinking them straight though:

Green Smoothie
Yep, in smoothies. I recently got a blender so have been making quite a few smoothies, and on the occasions a heavy smoothie made with milk doesn't appeal to me, these fruit juices lighten up the nutrient hit and boost the taste. Heinz have done a good job with these probiotic juices (even if they're a touch more expensive than I'd like), now I just have my fingers crossed for more varieties.

    Are you just depending on probiotics supplements? Or do you also eat foods that are rich in probiotics like yogurt and dairy?

    1. I eat yogurt (greek usually) pretty frequently in summer, but I'll be honest that consumption drops off a lot during winter.

      I probably don't need the supplements in summer, but they don't seem to be affecting me negatively.
